The Tyrannosaurus rex, also known as T. rex or simply the “T-Rex,” was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 66 million years ago. It is one of the most well-known and iconic prehistoric creatures, thanks in part to its depiction in popular media such as movies and television shows. T. rex was a member of the family Tyrannosauridae, which also included other species such as Albertosaurus and Tarbosaurus.
T. rex was a formidable predator that could grow up to 40 feet in length and weigh as much as 20 tons. It had a massive skull with powerful jaws lined with long, sharp teeth that were well-suited for tearing into the flesh of its prey. T. rex also had strong legs and a powerful tail that it used for balance and support when running.
Despite its fearsome reputation, T. rex was not the biggest or most heavily-armored dinosaur that ever lived. Some paleontologists believe that it may have hunted in packs or scavenged for food rather than relying on ambush as a primary hunting strategy.
There is still much that scientists don’t know about T. rex and other dinosaurs, but the study of fossilized remains, including 3D printed skeletons, helps us to better understand these amazing creatures and the world they lived in.
